Mule Plane Vineyard is located in the Mokelumne River AVA, nestled within the overarching Lodi AVA. This historic 5-acre site is managed by John Shinn and is planted to own-rooted Carignane, which dates back nearly 100 years. On the palate, this medium bodied wine is bright and fresh with flavors of raspberry, cranberry, cedar, and hints of anise. Mule Plane gets its name from the mule-drawn plane that John Shinn’s grandfather regularly saw his uncle using to level the field before planting. The site is Lodi Rules Sustainable certified.

The steady growing season of 2021 yielded a classic, structured expression of the historic Testa Vineyard. The 2021 Post & Vine Testa Vineyard Old Vine Field Blend captures the nuance and layered complexity that define this Mendocino site. Deep ruby in the glass, it opens with aromas of black plum, red cherry, and cedar, interwoven with savory notes of balsamic, black pepper, and a hint of forest floor. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine offers a vibrant core of natural acidity and a supple, balanced mouthfeel. Flavors of black plum and steeped black tea mingle with baking spice, anise, and nutmeg, while a touch of black raspberry adds lift and brightness. Moderate, dusty tannins frame the long, persistent finish. Enjoy now for its freshness and charm, or cellar to let its depth continue to unfold.

Undeniably vivacious, the 2022 Post & Vine Testa Carignane jumps out of the glass full of vibrant, rich red fruits that dance on the nose and palate with notes of red raspberry, red cherry and tart red plum. These bright fruit flavors eventually give way to earthier tones of fresh violets and wet rock while medium grain tannins provide structure throughout.
Fruit for our Testa Carignane comes from Testa Vineyard, a certified Organic (CCOF certified) and Biodynamic (Demeter) site in Mendocino County.
